Red Alert: ICANN and Verisign Proposal Would Allow Any Government In The World To Seize Domain Names
They’ve proposed allowing any government in the world to cancel, redirect, or transfer to their control applicable domain names! This is an outrageous and dangerous proposal that must be stopped. While this proposal is currently only for .NET domain names, presumably they would want to also apply it to other extensions like .COM as those contracts come up for renewal.

  • Over the past decade more than 80 countries have purchased cyber intrusion software, with some states almost certainly having irresponsibly used this to target journalists, human rights activists, political dissidents and opponents and foreign government officials.
  • The sophistication of some of these products and services is now at a stage to rival the equivalent capabilities of some state-linked Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) groups.
  • The irresponsible use of spyware against individuals is almost certainly happening at scale, with thousands of people targeted every year.
