Windows Vista Inside Out

CRN 38254 Thu 6 - 9 pm SCIE 215

Provides students with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience to install, configure, and maintain Windows Vista. Students will get their own free copy of Vista and perform many hands-on exercises to strengthen their skills. This course helps prepare students for the "Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist: Windows Vista, Configuration" certificate.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:


 1. Explain Windows Vista versions
 2. Install Windows Vista
 3. Upgrade to Windows Vista Ultimate Edition
 4. Install Windows Vista in a multi-boot configuration, and on a virtual machine
 5. Configure Windows Aero
 6. Describe known problems associated with installations and upgrades of Vista
 7. Apply updates and service packs
 8. Troubleshoot system startup and user login problems
 9. Interpret error messages and suggest appropriate solutions to problems.
10. Configure and troubleshoot hardware devices, such as displays, storage devices, and printers
11. Set up and troubleshoot a small network, including remote access, basic wireless networking, and Internet connection sharing
12. Perform routine maintenance
13. Optimize and monitor system performance
14. Troubleshoot Windows errors and recover from a computer crash, using the Windows Recovery Environment and other tools
15. Explain the structure of the registry and safely edit it
16. Manage disks and drives
17. Control access to files and folders with NTFS permissions, including the changes to NTFS permissions in Windows Vista
18. Configure Internet Explorer 7.0.
