Secure Telnet for Mac

  1. First connect to the Internet. Open Netscape (or any other browser) and enter the Web Address
    ftp://sol.ccsf.edu/pub/SSH
    as shown below.

  2. hw1mac_NETSCAPE (3K)
  3. There are four files for the Mac here:

  4. macSFTP_Carbon.sit     SFTP client for MacOS (from 8.1 to X, both SSH1 and SSH2)
macSFTP_Classic.sitSFTP client for MacOS (if you don't use CarbonLib)
macSSH68k.sitSSH2-only implementation OpenSSH from Mac 68K
macSSHPPC.sitSSH2-only implementation OpenSSH from Mac PPC
  5. For now, all we want is SSH, not SFTP, so drag one of the last two files to your desktop. Once the file downloads, you will need to open it because it is a Stuffit compressed file. You probably already have Stuffit on your hard drive, in the Netscape folder, as shown below. If you can find Stuffit, drag the file onto the Stuffit Expander icon to open it. If you cannot find Stuffit, you can download it from
    http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/

  6. hw1mac_STUFFIT (6K)
  7. When Stuffit is done, you will have a folder on your desktop with a name starting MAC SSH, containing the expanded files. Open it to see the files inside, as shown below.

  8. hw1mac_SSH (3K)
  9. Start MacSSH. The internet connection dials. Once the connection is established, click File, Open Connection. In the Open Connection... box, enter a Host Name of hills.ccsf.edu, as shown below.

  10. hw1mac_OPEN_CO (3K)
  11. Click the Connect button. A SSH2 Login window opens, as shown below. Enter your User Name and password and click OK.

  12. hw1mac_SSH2LOG (2K)
  13. Click the Connect button. A SSH2 Login window opens, as shown below. Enter your User Name and password and click OK.

  14. hw1mac_SSH2LOG (2K)
  15. A Host Key Unknown window will open the first time you connect to the hills server. Click Accept & Save.

  16. A hills.ccsf.edu window opens as shown below. Press Enter at the TERM = (ansi) prompt.

  17. hw1mac_HILLS (2K)

That's it! Now you are connected to the HP-UNIX system and you can enter UNIX commands, like pine .
